MoonBots Mini-Camp

We are spending three days at Coach Su's house. We call this time together "MoonBots Mini-Camp," and we are hoping to finish Phase I--our team registration and proposal--by the time we're done. Today we made team t-shirts and took our team photo, drafted our individual and team biographies, and thought about what our lunar landscape might look like and where we might do a public display of our robot and landscape. Doing a public demonstration is one of the requirements if we make it to Phase II. Thanks to Elayne for helping with the t-shirts. And by "helping" we mean "doing them." The official team photo came out great:

Team Biographies

Brenden

Brenden is a 12-year-old homeschooler. He likes building with Lego, video games, reading, and biking. He has built large-scale projects like castles with Lego before and is excited about building our moon landscape. He has some robotics experience. He and a friend built a remote-controlled alligator with a shooter arm and a sensor arm. Brenden has a lot of ideas for the design and programming of our robot. He also makes costume armor, weapons, and shields.

Eric

Eric is an 11-year-old homeschooler He likes Lego, video games, biking and reading ("especially reading," he says). He has made some Mindstorms robots. His favorite was modifying the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 shooterbot to be remote-controlled.

Mitchal

Mitchal is 11 and will be a public-school sixth grader this coming year. He loves videogaming. He says, "I have barely any experience building robots specifically, but I do know about creating designs from gaming. I like riding machines like dirt bikes, and I like fishing. I love building wooden things." Mitchal has a lot of ideas about our lunar landscape, and the video we need to make for Phase 1.

Su is a 46-year-old homeschooling mom who had no robotics or building experience until her oldest kid got her into it. Now she's an enthusiast. She's very excited about doing the MoonBots challenge this year. We're all going to learn a lot from this. She and a 12-year-old friend are hoping to do an all-girl robotics project later this year.
